LARGEST NATIVE PLANT NURSERY IN CLARK COUNTY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR TREE-POTTING EVENTS
– Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam prepping for 2016 spring plantings –
VANCOUVER, WA – Jan. 19, 2016 – Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam invites volunteers to register for upcoming potting events. Teams led by AmeriCorps volunteers and trained Stream Stewards will pot hundreds of seedlings in preparation for spring tree-plantings.
“Most people don’t even know that the utility has the largest native plant nursery in the county, but it’s a huge piece of what we do to restore salmon habitat,” said Ashley King, StreamTeam coordinator at Clark Public Utilities. “The trees we raise in our nursery have a much better survival rate than ones we purchase from other nurseries, and we couldn’t do it without volunteers. On Martin Luther King Day we had more than 60 volunteers at our native plant nursery and prepped nearly 4,000 trees for future planting.”
Upcoming Saturday events are separate and volunteers are welcome to sign-up for one or more depending on availability. Advance registration is required and all tools and training will be provided. The events will be held at Clark Public Utilities’ native plant nursery in Orchards, rain or shine.
